phillippe karl

i thought whilst i was laid up i could usefully use the time to start on some of the videos and dvd's i've bought and not got round to. so i opened Part 1 of Phillippe Karl's Classical Dressage series.

Very Interesting.

I was particularly interested in the flexions, to see him do that....motivational to try it again with Molly ....

and interesting to see the ridden - particularly the raise the hands - you could see the horse sit back and lift himself, so to speak..

glad i watched that, now to open the rest....

The videos always do make it look easier than it is, though. It takes time an many repetitions to get a horse to reliably respond to those aids.

It's what Lockie used to call the French concept of dressage where, when the horse is soft in front it is able to come from behind, as opposed to the German theory where the horse becomes soft in front by being driven from behind.

That's a very elementary explanation of far more complex methods, but that's how I understand it all. When I ride, I tend to do a bit of both...for good or ill. *G*

I've been meaning to re-watch the first PK DVD. Not that I'd try any of it, but I do need inspiration!

I hope horsey DVD viewing and Lemsips are helping you feel better :)

A very good use of your down time, that - DVDs - I'll have to remember that next time I'm not feeling so well. Sounds like an interesting set I'll have to look at.

I really like the PK vids, he has such a beautiful calm about him and it's so true...let the horse find his own balance, not by leaning on you...

I love PK! Only have his DVD's 1 & 2 but also have his latest book which is brilliant!
