bitless

after about 1/2 hour or so, and not getting anything like a nice trot, i took her back in, put the bitless bridle on, and voila! trot, no kangaroo steps.

so, it's either my contact - unlikely, as she was doing the same wiht RI! - or back to bit problems.

and my money is on the latter.

WE've been lunging off the bit for a while, as my lunging cavesson isn't really right on her and i can't find one to fit. I shall just have to find one to fit.

in the meantime, i'll be riding bitless and working on my seat, LOL

and partner has just told me she has tomorrow off! (flexi...) - that's always difficult when i'm trying to work! but i'm not working in the afternoon ...starting the move

Some horses have differently shaped palates, and different size tongues, which make some bits uncomfortable - I have a mare who greatly prefers a bit with two joints and a lozenge in the middle due to her low palate. Also, a horse with dental issues will often have trouble with any bit. Hope you get it all sorted, but it's good you have the option of bitless!

Hope it's not a long quest for the right bit again. Toby and Tucker both go in the losenge bit and Chance prefers a single jointed snaffle.

When were Molly's teeth last checked? Maybe she has developed as issue there.

teeth were done in january, due again in july or so.....

i do reckon it's to do with having lunged off the bit, but we'll see. don't want to have to spend TOO long in bitless again

Good idea to sort lunge cavesson. I love my Portuguese one - excellent feel and precision to influence the horse. Must admit I don't lunge off the bit.

jane, yes, i was thinking of taking some measurements and having a word with Maria! bad enough sorting out saddle issues, but having to wrestle with the bit again...

I only started lunging off the bit again as others on yard do (including RI) and my cavesson don't fit right....
