thanks people... partner takes the michael when i mention where people are who read this, but i'm well impressed..
anyway, did ride tonight, stirrups back down to where they were until recently, i.e. long leg, with a view to stretching my hips/thighs..and in walk, with a view to holding my hands higher to see how she does and to try and imrpove the steering ..
whilst we've been working a lot on forward, i think we've lost other stuff ...
and having my hands low, as RI says (and which TBF molly does seem to go better with) also has th effect of seemingn to pull me forwards more than i shold be AND i can't maintain my hands upright with thumbs on top at all ...

Ah, she may mock!! It's your honest tell it as it is style that everyone appreciates.
Congratulations! I agree on the hand position, even small changes can make a huge difference - with my mare, raising my hands slightly allowed her to soften in a way we weren't getting before - sometimes you have to try different things until you hit the one that's right for you and your horse.
Be patient with yourself. It's not easy learning how to use your body correctly, especially when you are trying to train the horse at the same time. Unless you have been drilled to riding perfection over the years, likely your position will compromise itself when you focus on the horse's being correct.
I've had some rather amusing comments from trainers about that. Such as, "I don't get it. Every time you come back this horse is much better trained, but you can't ride him worth a darn." *G* Comment from a judge on a dressage test. I was riding a horse I had trained since he was two, "Will make a nice pair when rider catches up to horse."
You'll figure it out. *S*
Now it's 12! One of these days (well actually a year) I will be following from a greater distance. Now it's Cambridge, next???
