55 minutes

of ground work interspersed with attempts to get on .... at the finish got new livery owner to come in and give me a hand, and of course she didn't need even to hold Molly's head, as Molly was interested in her..... i find that often happens, it just needs someone to stand there.

but pretty frustrating, as you can imagine.

Mind, after the last couple of weeks (what with rain, RTA, rain, and being away) I knew i'd need to do the groundwork .... just expected it to be more effective than it was!

hopefully we'll get back into the swing of it soon...

in the meantime, the scabs behind the ear/down the neck had cleared up, but some more had appeared on her face.

Rain bumps. I don't quite think it's the same thing as rain scald, but my horses used to get them when they were out in the wet. It's almost like an allergic reaction. Iodine soap should help. Used to use Captan, but now it is considered carcinogenic, so it's not a good treatment. Any kind of anti fungal stuff should help.

Keep up that ground work so your girl will stand for you. And remember, be assertive and positive about it. Expect her to do as she is told without getting all upset yourself.

thanks, jean - what's captan, anyway? don't think we get that here.... dont quite fancy sudocrem down her face, though!

keeping my temper quite nicely (that's why I asked for the help LOL)

My thought was rainscald. (Mud fever, only not on the legs, same bug). I know where you can get dermobion, that'd cure it :-)

Captan is a garden fungicide. Whatever Caroline recommends should be fine. I don't know what kind of stuff is available there in Britain. There are US products to treat skin things like this put out by Eqyss, (Micro Tek Spray.)

PJ would get tiny bumps all over him, often in the pattern that the water ran off him. And, they would show up overnight.

i think rainscald as well, caroline - probably is the same thing as you mean, jean. just surprised it's not everywhere else!

Washing with hibiscrub and rinsing thoroughly may help. A mare I knew got a patch of rain scald down her shoulder where water seeped under her rug then the area stayed warm and wet for hours on end. The vet recommended hibiscrub and that cleared it up quickly.
