charlie and molly like each other a bit too much....
oops.
we're all upset as we thought charlie had grown out of this ...(he's not a rig we know that)
oh dear.
had i been able to stick to the first though (which was go down earlier and ride, plan interrupted by work) this wouldn't have happened (well, not today, and not so they got caught)
but it's as well that we know...
any words of wisdom out there?

Well ive had this problem for years with Polo...life is much easier now he's only in with geldings.
Truthfully the mare's are usually the instigators!
I used to get a load of grief about it but after owners observing their mares walking backwards into him squirting, stalking him around the field and waiting at the gate all day if he was in they usually stopped acting like he was forcing himself on them.
After he's been with the same mare a while he's always lost complete interest in them and it all usually settles down.
As far as ive always been concerned its entirely up to the owners to decide if it's a problem, if they are *happy* and not hurting each other .........
molly is a total tart, of course...
so that's an interesting thought, we might be ok in the long run then? we thought we'd leave it for a while as it is ...thanks nicola that's helpful!
My old gelding Noble was still up to such stuff with the mares into his early 20s, and he still thinks he's a ladies' man at 29. But it's usually the mares who get things going!
I've never really dealt with a mare kept with the boys, so I am generally unhelpful.
Hope it all works out to everyone's satisfaction....well maybe not quite to satisfy the horses, but at least the owners. *G*
We had one that was regularly 'caught' in the act with one of our mares. As it was a bilateral agreement there never seemed to be a problem, both were happy for a bit of slap and tickle and no injuries ever but each case is different I guess.
people, my mate worries that it may cause an issue when we're riding.. but i'm not so sure, after all a stallion covers and then is ridden so no prob for charlie, and so long as there's no injuries i don't see a problem for molly?
Claire, ours were fine riding in an arena and hacking out. They went to shows together and were fine in the box but as I said, each situation may be different. Charlie does seem to suffer from separation anxiety which I would perceive as a greater problem than the one your friend is concerned about.
